I've been thinking about eventually going back to school to get my masters in counseling/public administration. Even though I have a degree in physical education, I really don't feel like I will be using it to form a lifelong career. I feel drawn to a more one on one field where I can connect with young people on a more personal level and help them work out their emotional hardships. I seem to have a lot of experiences where people open up to me and we talk about very real, important issues that go on in their own lives, and I LOVE it! I love when people can open up and share their feelings and emotions without letting pride get in the way. What better healing of the wounded heart/soul than expressing that hurt and letting it go!

I want to be able to do this as a profession. I want to help people find that joy and happiness that they are looking for in life within themselves. I want to help them let go of the painful experiences they hold inside. I want to help them truly know their self worth and understand how very special and important each one of them are to this life as a whole. I want them to know that life is worth living!

I had a special experience yesterday with one of the students I associate with at work. He opened up to me and shared what was going on in his life. How his particular life experiences have changed him, for the good and the bad. His dreams and aspirations in life, and his feelings of defeat. Young people especially need a solid support system. Someone they can trust and communicate with. Someone to believe in them.

I want to help them find that :)
